Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey has denied having a 'secret plan' to unconditionally increase interest rates. Speaking to Parliament's Treasury Committee, Bailey emphasized that there are still 'upside' risks to inflation, particularly with energy prices.

Bailey stated that expectations from financial markets do not necessarily mean that interest rates will rise. The current UK interest rate sits at 3.75%, and economists predict at least one increase over the next year amid expected higher inflation.

External member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) Megan Greene expressed concerns over volatile energy and commodity costs, citing the ongoing Middle East conflict as a potential driver of higher energy prices.
