Bank Junction Transformed into Pedestrian-Friendly Civic Space
Bank Junction in the City of London has undergone a significant transformation as part of a major public realm improvement project. Studio Weave, in collaboration with the City of London Corporation, reworked the streets and spaces connecting the Bank of England, Mansion House, and Royal Exchange.
The project aimed to create a more generous pedestrian environment while enhancing the setting of the historic buildings. Highway realignment and pedestrianisation were combined with new seating, planting, signage, and public art to achieve this goal.
The design drew on the principles of the City of London Technical Manual and introduced bespoke details and furniture as a contemporary complement to the historic architecture.
