Bank of Canada Bolsters Governing Council with New Deputy Governors
The Bank of Canada has announced two new appointments to its governing body, bringing in fresh expertise and perspectives. Marc-André Gosselin will join as Deputy Governor on May 25, 2026, while Nicolas Vincent takes up his role on August 3, 2026.
Gosselin brings a wealth of experience to the position, having worked at the Bank since 1999 and holding senior roles in both monetary policy and financial stability. He will oversee analysis of domestic economic developments as part of the Governing Council.
Vincent, who has been an external Deputy Governor since 2023, will assume a full-time role on August 3, focusing on international economic developments and serving as the Bank's G7 and G20 representative. His extensive research background in macro- and microeconomics will be invaluable in navigating the complex global economic environment.
The appointments come at a time of significant change for the Canadian economy, with Governor Tiff Macklem praising both new appointees for their 'breadth of experience' and 'deep modelling and analytical expertise'. The Bank will now launch a recruitment process to fill the vacant external Deputy Governor position.
