Bank of Canada Defied Again Over Replacement Workers During Strike

The Bank of Canada is facing another setback in its labor dispute with security officers. For the second time, the bank has been ordered not to use replacement workers during the strike.

In a statement, the bank expressed disappointment at the decision and said it will consider 'all of its legal options'.

The union, Public Service Alliance of Canada, has called on the bank to abide by the ruling and return to the bargaining table to negotiate a fair deal. The 42 members at the Bank's Ottawa office and seven members at the Montreal office have been on strike for four weeks after the bank locked out members in Montreal.

The bank has an obligation to ensure Canada's central bank is secure, it said. It pointed out that it had taken alternative measures to secure physical security of its facilities after the first ruling.
