Bank of Canada Freezes Rates Again Amid Global Market Turmoil
The Bank of Canada has maintained its overnight rate at 2.25 per cent for the seventh consecutive time, meeting analysts' expectations.
This decision comes as the Canadian economy shows signs of growth after being stagnant for much of 2025.
However, the central bank warned that the ongoing tariff war with the United States and the risk of inflation could lead to a change in direction with interest rates.
The federal government is also considering extending its excise tax on gasoline and diesel until January 31, which would cut gasoline prices by 10 cents per litre and diesel prices by four cents at the pump.
