Bank of Canada Holds Rates Steady Amid Economic Softening

The Bank of Canada has kept its key interest rate steady at its latest policy meeting. Analysts at Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) say this decision is helping to support the Canadian dollar against its U.S. counterpart.

BBH strategists noted that the BoC's decision to remain on hold provides a floor under USD/CAD, limiting any sharp upside in the pair. This means that as long as the central bank stays patient, the Canadian dollar is likely to hold its ground.

The move reduces the interest-rate differential with the U.S. dollar, making Canadian assets relatively more attractive. For traders and businesses, a stable currency reduces uncertainty in cross-border transactions.
