Bank of Canada Locks in 2027 Interest Rate Decision Dates
The Bank of Canada has confirmed its schedule for policy interest rate announcements in 2027. The central bank will make eight fixed decision dates, providing commercial banks, mortgage brokers, and corporate planners with a transparent roadmap during a period where the overnight lending rate has remained anchored.
The first rate decision is set for late January, followed by consecutive announcements through March, April, June, July, September, October, and concluding the cycle in December. All policy statements will be released simultaneously at 09:45 Eastern Time.
Four of these dates, occurring in January, April, July, and October, will be accompanied by the release of the central bank's quarterly Monetary Policy Report. These documents provide market participants with deep analytical insights into the Governing Council's assessment of domestic inflation trajectories, labour market dynamics, and international economic risks.
Sal Guatieri, director and senior economist at BMO Capital Markets, noted that the Bank of Canada appears comfortable maintaining a neutral stance unless domestic or international shocks alter the inflation balance. 'Today it does look like the Bank of Canada is on hold for the foreseeable future,' he said.
