Bank of Canada Maintains Interest Rate as Economy Navigates Complex Landscape
The Bank of Canada has paused its monetary policy, maintaining its interest rate at 2.25% as it navigates a complex economic landscape.
This decision comes despite concerns about inflation, which rose to 3.2% in May due to energy prices, particularly gasoline.
However, the Bank of Canada's preferred core measures, such as CPI-trim and CPI-median, remain contained at around 2.3%, indicating that underlying inflation pressures are benign.
Ashish Dewan CFA, Senior Investment Strategist at Vanguard Investments Canada, notes that there is still clear slack in the economy, exerting disinflationary pressure across various categories.
