Bank of Canada Ordered Again Not to Use Replacement Workers During Strike
The Bank of Canada has been ordered not to use replacement workers during its ongoing security officers' strike, marking the second time this month it has received such a directive from the Canada Industrial Relations Board.
According to the ruling, which was released on July 23, the central bank contravened the Canada Labour Code by hiring contractors from Pinkerton Consulting & Investigations while its security officers were on strike.
This is not the first time the Bank of Canada has been found in breach of the code; earlier this month, the board released a similar decision saying the central bank had also contravened the code by using contractors from Garda Canada Security Corporation and the services of union members.
The Bank of Canada expressed disappointment with the latest decision, stating that it 'adhered to the Canada Labour Code' and took alternative measures to secure its facilities after the first ruling. However, it is considering its legal options in response to the CIRB's decision.
