The Bank of Canada has maintained its key interest rate at 2.25 per cent, citing ongoing global turmoil as the reason for this decision.

This marks the fourth time in a year that the bank has kept rates steady, with the last adjustment made back in October 2025.

The bank's Governing Council pointed to several factors contributing to their decision, including the war in Iran and its impact on energy prices, which are currently high.

Additionally, new American tariffs on Canadian goods and the breakdown of trade talks between the two countries have added to the uncertainty surrounding the economy.
