Bank of Canada Unveils New $20 Bill Design
The Bank of Canada has unveiled its new $20 bill design, featuring King Charles III on the front and the Vimy Ridge Memorial on the back. This is the first time a new monarch has appeared on the $20 in over 70 years, with the previous design featuring Queen Elizabeth II.
The new bills also include provincial, territorial, and Indigenous floral designs. Notably, the new $20 bill design is vertical, joining the 2018 redesign of the $10 bill, while the other denominations remain horizontal.
The security features have been upgraded with high-tech elements that are unprecedented on Canadian notes. A purple security stripe shows spinning, transforming, and pulsing elements when tilted. Raised ink appears on the portrait, large number, and word CANADA, while gold maple leaves on the back pulse when the note is moved.
