Bank of England Balance Sheet Report Shows Reserve Balances Rise

The Bank of England's weekly balance sheet report for September 2, 2026, shows an increase in reserve balances and notes in circulation. The bank's reserve balances rose to £643,685 million from £640,701 million a week earlier.

On the other hand, short-term repo operations decreased to £124,825 million from £126,073 million. Indexed long-term repo usage increased to £83,874 million from £81,684 million.

The report also shows that foreign currency public securities issued declined to £20,533 million from £22,085 million, and foreign currency reserve assets decreased to £21,246 million from £22,541 million.
