Bank of England Holds Interest Rates Amid Global Uncertainty
The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee made its decision to hold interest rates at 3.75% amid ongoing Middle East tensions and political uncertainty.
Six members voted in favor of keeping rates unchanged, while three favored a quarter-point increase to 4%.
This means the cost of borrowing may not decrease soon, leaving mortgage rates for homebuyers potentially high.
Nathan Emerson, Chief Executive at Propertymark, noted that holding interest rates provides stability and certainty for the housing market, allowing lenders to offer competitive mortgage products and buyers to make informed decisions.
However, Jeremy Leaf, a north London estate agent and former RICS residential chairman, cautioned that relief from cost-of-living pressures may be short-lived due to the impact of oil, energy, and other prices on inflation.
