Bank of England Holds Rates at 3.75% Amid Ongoing Uncertainty
The Bank of England has maintained interest rates at 3.75% in a 6-to-3 vote, as expected by many.
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) said it's appropriate to keep the Bank Rate at this level and is ready to act if necessary to ensure CPI inflation meets its 2% target in the medium term.
Industry experts expressed concerns about the decision, with Neil Rudge from Shawbrook warning that SMEs remain cautious due to ongoing global uncertainty and rising operating costs. James Burgess from Atradius UK noted that holding rates prolongs the squeeze on businesses, which could worsen if higher energy prices force a rate rise in coming months.
Charles Resnick from Afin Bank emphasized that the MPC is still in wait-and-see mode, awaiting developments in economic and political areas before making further decisions.
