Bank of England Keeps Interest Rate Unchanged Amid Middle East Uncertainty
The Bank of England has maintained its interest rate at 3.75% in its latest decision, despite uncertainty linked to the war in the Middle East.
In a split decision, six members of the bank's monetary policy committee voted to keep the rate unchanged, while three members - Huw Pill, Megan Greene, and Catherine Mann - voted for an increase to 4%.
The central bank indicated that elevated energy prices are likely to feed into UK inflation over the coming months, with a predicted peak of 3.2% later this year primarily driven by a rise in energy prices linked to the conflict.
Raising interest rates is the central bank's main way of reducing inflation - the measure of how fast prices increase over time. However, the Bank also acknowledged that there remains scope for the outlook to change materially as events in the Middle East unfold.
