Bank of England Lab Tests Digital Pound for SME Trade Finance
The Bank of England's Digital Pound Lab is testing solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to access trade finance using electronic bills of lading, a digital pound, and stablecoins. A consortium of firms, including Nobo Finance, Dun & Bradstreet, and Polygon Labs, will participate in the trial phase.
The Digital Pound Lab is an experimental platform that creates a simulated environment to test the potential capabilities of a digital pound. One workstream will test whether stablecoins and a digital pound can enable near-instant cross-border settlement when combined with eBL-backed invoice factoring flow.
Polygon is providing technical infrastructure via its open money stack, which has processed trillions in stablecoin volume across various currencies. The platform aims to solve interoperability challenges by giving users a single integration point for digital contracts stored on a blockchain.
