The Bank of England has launched an investigation into the concentration of investments in Asian artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor stocks, such as South Korea's SK Hynix and Taiwan's TSMC. The Prudential Regulation Authority under the Bank of England is reviewing the prime brokerage businesses of investment banks operating in London.

Prime brokerage provides various services to institutional investors, including lending money, brokering trades, and custody and management of assets.

The assessment by the Bank of England is that as leverage trading by hedge funds surges due to the AI investment boom, the exposure of investment banks to risk is also growing.
