Bank of England Tests Stablecoin-Digital Pound Combo for Trade Finance
The Bank of England is conducting an experiment to see if stablecoins and a digital pound can be used together in cross-border trade finance payments. The trial, which is being carried out at the Digital Pound Lab, aims to verify whether stablecoin payments and digital pound settlement can operate within a single flow.
NOBO Finance, Dun & Bradstreet, and Polygon Labs are participating in the project. Under the structure, an exporter first receives an advance payment through a stablecoin payment network, and a UK importer later completes final settlement using a simulated digital pound.
The Bank of England has emphasized that this trial does not imply any future policy direction or support for specific companies or products. It is also not yet decided whether to issue a digital pound.
