Bank of England Tests Stablecoin-Digital Pound Interoperability in Cross-Border Trade
The Bank of England is continuing its research into digital money by testing stablecoins and a potential digital pound in cross-border trade finance.
The experiment, conducted through the Bank's Digital Pound Lab, aims to determine whether different forms of digital currency can work together seamlessly without creating additional delays or settlement risks.
The project involves NOBO Finance, Dun & Bradstreet, and Polygon Labs, which will test a scenario where an exporter receives an advance through a stablecoin while a UK importer settles its obligation using a simulated digital pound.
This is not a live launch of a digital pound, but rather an experiment to examine interoperability between different forms of money. The goal is to create a 'multi-money' system in which various forms of sterling can coexist and remain interchangeable at equal value.
