Bank of England Tests Stablecoin-Digital Pound Payment System
The Bank of England is exploring the intersection of stablecoins and its proposed digital pound. In a recent experiment, the central bank tested a cross-border payment system where an exporter receives an advance in stablecoin before a British importer settles the transaction with simulated digital pounds.
The test was conducted with NOBO Finance, Dun & Bradstreet, and Polygon Labs. The scenario involved a company selling goods abroad, with the exporter receiving an advance via a stablecoin system and the buyer making payment with a simulated digital pound.
No real clients or real digital pounds were used in the experiment, which was conducted through the Bank of England's Digital Pound Lab. This testing environment allows for the exploration of different scenarios without committing to actual implementation.
