Bank of England Tests Stablecoins to Boost SME Cross-Border Trade Finance
The Bank of England has launched the second phase of its Digital Pound Lab, a project aimed at improving cross-border trade finance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The initiative involves NOBO Finance, Dun & Bradstreet, and Polygon Labs in testing how stablecoins and a potential digital pound can enhance trust, visibility, and efficiency in SME trade finance.
The project focuses on developing reusable credit profiles for SMEs and exploring invoice factoring with multi-rail settlement using stablecoins and digital pounds.
This move seeks to address financing challenges caused by slow settlements and limited credit access, which hinder the growth of SMEs.
