Bank of Japan Interest-Rate Hike Looms: Will it Dampen Bitcoin's Rally?
Bitcoin's recent surge of over 21% in the past week has put it at $77,202.63, according to current market data. However, this rally may be threatened by the upcoming interest-rate hike from the Bank of Japan (BOJ) scheduled for September.
The BOJ is expected to raise rates at its policy meeting on September 18th, with markets betting an 82% probability, up from 23% before the last rate hike in July. This has sparked concerns that higher Japanese interest rates could negatively impact Bitcoin and the wider cryptocurrency market.
Kento Minami, senior economist at Daiwa Securities, noted that while the BOJ may not explicitly state a September rate hike, officials will likely emphasize upside inflation risks, which markets will interpret as a nod towards a September increase. This shift in expectations has led to increased bets on a rate hike and potential market volatility.
