Banks Slam Brakes on Lending, Sending Warning Signals to Crypto

The Federal Reserve's Senior Loan Officer Opinion Survey has dropped to -26.8%, its lowest level in recent history, indicating that banks are actively pulling back from lending.

This sharp decline suggests a credit crunch that could have significant implications for the economy and cryptocurrency markets.

For context, readings between 0% and 5% indicate 'basically unchanged' lending standards. A reading near -27% is well beyond this range and indicates a significant tightening of credit.

The survey measures changes in lending standards, loan demand, and terms offered to borrowers across roughly 80 large domestic banks and 24 US branches of foreign institutions.
