BEA PCE Methodology Tweaks Seen as Marginal for Inflation Data
The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) has made methodological tweaks to its calculation methods for the US Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, which is the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge.
TD Securities analysts have assessed these changes and concluded that they are likely to have a marginal impact on core inflation readings.
The adjustments involve refinements in how certain components, such as financial services and insurance, are measured. This is part of routine statistical improvements rather than a fundamental shift in how inflation is captured.
According to TD Securities, the methodological changes will not alter the trajectory of core PCE inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices.
