Becker Urges Govt to Reconsider Bed Levy Amid Economic Boost
Auckland FC's chief executive, Nick Becker, is calling on the National Government to reconsider its decision to axe the bed levy. The levy was introduced to help boost Auckland's economy through hosting large-scale events.
The team's recent transtasman victory in May had a significant impact on the local economy, generating $2.5 million in economic activity. Over 28,000 fans attended the game at Go Media Stadium, which was the first A-League Grand Final played in New Zealand.
Becker believes that a bed levy is necessary to help replicate this success and supercharge the events sector. He emphasizes that it's not a tax but rather a levy that benefits the community.
