Bessent Highlights Asheville's Resilience Amid G20 Meetings

The G20 Financial Track meetings continued in Asheville, North Carolina, on August 30, 2026. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent gave opening remarks at the Grove Park Inn, focusing on the resilience of the region after being hit hard by Hurricane Helene nearly two years ago.

Bessent praised the people's role in recovery and highlighted the importance of financial literacy. He mentioned that working families will benefit from over a dozen learning modules developed to promote financial education.

In an impromptu news conference, Bessent addressed concerns tied to ongoing issues with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh also made his first appearance at the G20 meetings in his new role.
