Bessent Sees Stronger Yen Ahead for Japan
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has made a bold prediction about Japan's economic future. Speaking at a Group of 20 finance leaders' gathering in Asheville, North Carolina, Bessent stated that he believes the Japanese government and the Bank of Japan will take action leading to a stronger yen.
When asked if this meant raising interest rates, Bessent replied, 'I think the market's pricing that in now.'
The comments suggest a strong chance that the BOJ will raise interest rates at its next policy meeting in September.
