Bessent Warns: Stronger Yen Ahead as BoJ Rate Hikes Loom

The US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned markets against testing Japan's resolve on yen intervention, causing USD/JPY to dip below 153. This warning has capped upside potential for the pair and led some traders to prepare for a stronger Yen in the coming weeks.

According to market analysts, USD/JPY is likely to hover just below the critical 153 level as Bessent's comments have added to the uncertainty surrounding yen intervention. To profit from a potential drop toward 150, traders are recommending buying USD/JPY put options.

The Bank of Japan's policy rate is projected to climb past 0.75% heading into 2027, which is expected to pull local cash back home and support JGB yields. This trend can be exploited by entering payer swaps on Japanese interest rates to capitalize on these rising yields.
