Bitcoin and Gold Rally as Fed's Credibility on Inflation Target Comes Under Scrutiny
Peter Schiff, a well-known gold bull and Bitcoin critic, pointed out that the simultaneous rally in gold, silver, oil, and Bitcoin reflects a broader loss of confidence in the Federal Reserve's commitment to returning inflation to its 2% target.
The recent price movements have seen gold reach $4,600 an ounce, silver approach $70, and Bitcoin briefly climb above $79,000 before giving back some of its gains.
Schiff stated that 'Gold hitting $4,600, silver near $70, oil over $87, and Bitcoin's earlier spike above $79K show the Fed has lost all credibility on its commitment to returning inflation to 2%.'
The Treasury's recent announcement to at least double the size of certain buyback operations for longer-dated government bonds has been seen as a move to provide additional liquidity support, but it has not alleviated concerns around persistent inflation and large fiscal deficits.
