Bitcoin Defies Inflation Data, Surges to New High
Bitcoin's price saw a significant increase on Friday, despite US inflation data showing a rise in consumer prices. The cryptocurrency's value surged to around $78,749 after jumping 2% over a 24-hour period. It even reached as high as $79,607 at one point.
The recent inflation data showed that the consumer price index, excluding food and energy, climbed 0.3% in August from a month earlier, which was higher than expected. This typically means the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates, which could negatively impact Bitcoin's price growth.
However, the market seems to be shrugging off this news, with traders predicting an 85% chance of interest rate hikes next week. Bitcoin has historically performed well in low-interest-rate environments, as it allows for increased liquidity and more buying power.
