Bitcoin Faces Key Test as Strong August Rally Meets Economic Indicators

Bitcoin's strong performance in August is set to face its first major test as several key economic indicators and central banker speeches approach. The cryptocurrency has surged by nearly a quarter this month, marking its best August since 2017 when it rose by more than 65%, according to Coinglass data.

However, market analysts warn that the 'higher bar to clear' after such a strong rally may lead to profit-taking if the Federal Reserve takes a hawkish stance during this week's Jackson Hole symposium. Daniela Hathorn from Capital.com told CoinDesk: 'A speech that keeps further Fed tightening at arm’s length could preserve the weaker-dollar, lower-yield backdrop behind the rally.'

Hong Yea, co-founder and CEO of crypto neobank Grvt, also sees a significant risk factor in this week's events, as the ongoing US-Iran conflict and Russia's invasion of Ukraine add to the uncertainty.
