Bitcoin Stabilizes Ahead of Crucial Inflation Reports and Treasury Auction
Bitcoin's price stabilized near $79,519 on Monday after a strong August employment data report that increased expectations for a September rate hike from the Federal Reserve. The cryptocurrency had reached an intraday high of $80,494 before retreating.
The upcoming inflation reports and Treasury auction will be crucial catalysts for Bitcoin's direction this week. On Thursday, the Producer Price Index (PPI) will be released, followed by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on Friday. The PPI is expected to rise 0.4% from July, while core PPI is forecast to increase 0.3%. Annual producer inflation is predicted to accelerate from 4.7% to 5.4%, which could reinforce concerns about higher energy and input costs spreading through the economy.
The CPI release will be the final major inflation reading before the Federal Reserve's September 15-16 policy meeting, where officials are expected to announce their decision on interest rates. A hotter-than-forecast report could strengthen expectations for a rate hike, while a softer report could support a pause in rate increases.
