BMO, RBC Abandon Downtown Brandon Branches

Two major Canadian banks, BMO and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), are relocating from their longstanding downtown Brandon locations in October. The BMO branch on Rosser Avenue will close and move to a new location on Park Avenue, while RBC's Rosser branch will be consolidated with the existing RBC branch on 18th Street.

Neither bank owns its downtown property, leaving the fate of the buildings uncertain. In an interview, Jeff Roman, BMO spokesperson, described their move as 'an investment in the community,' citing a new, modernized branch on Park Avenue that will provide expanded services to clients.

RBC regional vice-president Tracey Schofield stated there will be no job losses following the consolidation of two branches in the city. The changes come as both banks adjust their physical branch networks to reflect shifting consumer banking habits, which increasingly favor digital and mobile banking options.
