BoE Chief Economist Pill Urges Immediate Interest Rate Hike Amid Iran War Inflation Fears
Brits are bracing for more financial pain as the Bank of England's chief economist, Huw Pill, urges an immediate hike in interest rates to combat surging inflation caused by the Iran war.
Pill called for a raise from 3.75% to 4% and criticized his fellow members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) for their 'wait-and-see' approach.
In a speech at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, Pill expressed concerns about leaving interest rates unchanged while waiting for clearer signs of how the Middle East crisis has affected the UK economy.
He stated that there is ample reason to doubt that the conflict will be resolved soon and emphasized the importance of acting now to address emerging inflationary pressures.
