BoE Hawkish Stance Bolstered by Strong UK Data
The British pound has steadied in recent days as new UK economic data solidified the Bank of England's (BoE) hawkish stance, according to analysts at Rabobank.
The latest figures on inflation and wage growth were stronger than expected, indicating that underlying price pressures remain sticky. This reinforces the BoE's decision to keep interest rates higher for longer, which tends to attract foreign investment and increase demand for the pound.
Rabobank strategists noted that these data points reduce the likelihood of a rate cut in the near term, a scenario that would typically support a currency by attracting yield-seeking capital. As a result, the pound has remained resilient against major peers, particularly the euro and the US dollar.
