BoE Hawkish Stance Boosts Pound Against USD

The Bank of England's continued hawkish rhetoric has given the pound a clearer path forward. This comes as Kevin Warsh's departure from the US dollar market leaves it without a clear direction.

The BoE is expected to leave the repo rate unchanged at 3.75% for a fifth consecutive meeting, but markets have raised expectations that the Bank will tighten monetary policy further. Derivatives currently imply a 65% probability of a repo rate hike in September and price in two rate increases by the end of the year.

A hawkish tone from Governor Andrew Bailey at the post-meeting press conference is supporting the GBP/USD pair, with expectations that more members will join the Committee's hawkish camp. This could provide additional support for the British pound, which has rallied against the US dollar due to the contrast between the Fed's less decisive stance and the Bank of England's hawkish position.
