BOE Holds Rate at 3.75%, Cites Uncertainty over Inflation Possibilities
The Bank of England (BOE) held its benchmark interest rate at 3.75% on March 30th, in line with market expectations that had shifted in recent weeks.
This decision marks five consecutive Monetary Policy Committee meetings where the BOE has kept the rate unchanged this year.
The committee's decision was met with a split vote of six to three, with those who voted for a hike citing concerns about underlying disinflation and inflation exceeding the 2% target for over five years.
BOE Governor Andrew Bailey emphasized that global conditions are uncertain due to rising inflation possibilities, but domestic conditions are somewhat more favorable, leading to the decision to hold the rate at 3.75%.
