BOE Likely to Hold Rates Steady Amid Rising Energy Costs
The Bank of England is likely to keep its benchmark interest rate at 3.75 percent despite rising energy costs, according to BNY analyst Geoff Yu.
In a recent analysis published on July 27, 2026, Yu stated that market expectations for additional rate tightening by the end of the year appear excessive, with around 42 basis points of tightening already priced in.
Yu emphasized that financial markets have effectively tightened conditions through rising mortgage and swap rates, making it unlikely for the BoE to shift its policy stance this week.
The analyst noted that upcoming government fiscal measures and potential tax-threshold adjustments will play a more significant role in shifting policy expectations than immediate energy costs.
