BOE Maintains Rate at 3.75%, Eyes Inflation Risks
The Bank of England has maintained its interest rate at 3.75% for the fifth consecutive time, as policymakers weigh the risks and benefits of easing inflation against potential price pressures from higher energy costs.
At a meeting on Thursday, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted six to three in favor of keeping Bank Rate unchanged, with three members advocating for a 0.25 percentage point increase to 4%.
The decision came despite official figures showing Consumer Prices Index inflation easing from 2.8% in May to 2.6% in June, remaining above the Bank's 2% target.
Richard Carter of Quilter Cheviot noted that 'inflation remains uncomfortably above target', but added that a September increase was possible.
