BoE Sees Muted Inflation Effects Ahead of Key Monetary Policy Meeting
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey expressed caution on inflationary pressures in the UK, suggesting that second-round effects are muted. In an interview at Jackson Hole, he stated, 'We're seeing quite subdued second-round effects, I think we've seen a softening labour market for some time now.' This assessment comes ahead of the Bank's monetary policy meeting on September 17.
Bailey emphasized that the BoE is not pre-committed to an interest rate path and will assess the economic situation on a meeting-by-meeting basis. He noted, 'We are seeing, at the moment, relatively muted second-round inflation effects.' However, he also cautioned that this trend may not continue.
