BOE Set to Hold Interest Rates Amid Rising Geopolitical Tensions
The Bank of England is set to make its latest interest rate decision on Thursday, July 30th. Most economists expect the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) to keep rates unchanged at 3.75%, following a 7-2 split in favor of maintaining the current Bank Rate.
Inflation has been easing, with the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) slowing to 2.6% in June - its lowest level for 15 months. However, inflation is still expected to rise later this year due to higher energy costs and renewed tensions in the Middle East.
The recent conflict in the region has led to a sharp increase in oil prices, which could result in higher fuel and transport costs feeding into the wider economy. This has reinforced the Bank's cautious approach, complicating expectations that rates would remain unchanged for the rest of the year.
