BoE Votes Hawkish, But Governor Talks Down Rate Hike Bets
The Bank of England's monetary policy committee voted 6-3 to hold Bank Rate at 3.75%, with three members advocating for an immediate quarter-point increase.
This hawkish vote was met with a rally in the British Pound Sterling, with GBP/USD trading above 1.3450 and up 0.71% after cutting through the converged 50-day and 200-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs).
However, the Bank of England's governor quickly talked down the hawkish sentiment in the press conference, stating that nothing should be read into the vote as a sign of tightening cycle.
The Pound's gain on the Euro was relatively modest at 0.2%, and analysts noted that this rally is largely due to the Dollar's decline rather than any genuine repricing of Britain's rate path.
