Bank of Japan board member Hajime Takata is urging the central bank to increase interest rates more quickly than expected. Speaking at a news conference in Sapporo, Japan on September 2, Takata stated that the BOJ should conduct rate hikes 'nimbly' to counter intensifying inflationary pressures.

The current semiannual pace of rate hikes anticipated by markets is too rigid, according to Takata. He noted that the global economy has changed significantly since recent years and that Japan is facing inflation pressures linked to the Middle East conflict.

Takata also warned about divergences between Japanese and overseas monetary policies potentially triggering volatility in financial markets, particularly foreign exchange markets.
