BOJ Closely Watches Yen's Impact on Economy and Inflation

The Bank of Japan (BOJ) has announced it will closely monitor the impact of yen fluctuations on the economy and prices. In a press conference after a two-day policy meeting, Governor Kazuo Ueda stated that the currency's weakness is now an 'important' factor in assessing upside risks to inflation.

Ueda noted that foreign exchange rate fluctuations have grown more than before, affecting prices. The BOJ has decided to keep the benchmark policy rate unchanged at around 1.0 percent.
