Japan's economy is expected to grow moderately in fiscal year (FY) 2026-27, despite some slowdown, according to a recent report from the Bank of Japan (BOJ). The BOJ notes that factors such as government measures and accommodative financial conditions will help support economic growth. Additionally, rising global demand for artificial intelligence-related products is also expected to contribute to growth.

The BOJ's Outlook for Economic Activity and Prices July 2026 report projects a moderate increase in the economic growth rate from FY28 onwards, as high crude oil prices are expected to wane and income-spending virtuous cycles intensify. Medium- to long-term inflation expectations are also expected to rise.

The Bank of Japan notes that there are risks to the outlook, including the impact of the Middle East crisis on financial and foreign exchange markets. It also warns about the effects of global AI-related demand and future developments in foreign exchange rates on Japan's economic activity and prices.
