Tokyo's Governor Kazuo Ueda of the Bank of Japan (BOJ) stated that the recent powerful earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture caused no major disruption to the country's financial system.

The earthquake, which measured up to 7 on Japan's seismic intensity scale, resulted in some bank branches and automated teller machines being suspended. However, Ueda assured that there was no significant impact on financial functions such as settlements and cash supply.

The BOJ has requested financial institutions to take steps to ensure a smooth cash supply in areas affected by the disaster. Kumamoto is home to several factories producing semiconductors and other products, which may be impacted by production halts due to the earthquake.
