BOJ Governor Skips Jackson Hole as Hawkish Tamura Takes His Place
Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda will not attend this year's Jackson Hole Symposium in Wyoming, but Board Member Naoki Tamura will represent him at the annual economic conference. The BOJ has not given a reason for Ueda's absence from the event, which is scheduled to take place from August 27th to 29th.
Tamura, known as one of the most hawkish members of the BOJ's Policy Board, will attend in his place. He believes that Japan's economy has already achieved price stability at a 2% inflation rate and that the current policy rate still needs to increase before reaching the neutral interest rate.
Market participants are speculating about the timing of an additional rate hike by the BOJ, with some predicting it could happen as early as the September monetary policy meeting. Tamura's participation in the symposium may provide clues on the pace of Japan's interest rate normalization.
