Bank of Japan Board Member Hajime Takata has once again called for interest rate hikes to prevent upward price deviations. In a speech delivered on Wednesday in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Takata emphasized the need for 'nimble' rate hikes after assessing domestic financial conditions and developments overseas.

Takata believes that the Bank needs to conduct rate hikes nimbly by gauging the degree of accommodation in domestic financial conditions, in addition to examining developments overseas. This suggests a more proactive approach to monetary policy than some may have expected from the BOJ.

With growing speculation over a near-term policy move, Takata's comments add fuel to the fire, sparking further debate about the future direction of Japanese monetary policy.
