BoJ Hawkish Stance Boosts JPY Expectations
The Japanese Yen (JPY) lost ground against the US Dollar (USD) on Friday, settling just above 160.00 as gains from post-BoJ announcements faded.
Bank of Japan Governor Kazuho Ueda reaffirmed the central bank's commitment to monetary tightening during a press conference after the BoJ's interest rate decision on Friday.
Ueda emphasized that the BoJ is moving in sync with US and European central banks, which suggests further rate hikes are likely. He also warned of rising medium- to long-term inflation expectations, hinting at future monetary tightening.
Analysts at BBH note that the BoJ's decision can be seen as a 'hawkish hold,' keeping interest rates unchanged but signaling a faster normalization path towards its estimated neutral range of 1.10%-2.50%.
