BOJ Hawkishness Key to Yen Rebound: BlackRock's Rieder

BlackRock's chief investment officer for global fixed income, Rick Rieder, believes that Japan's currency needs more than just government intervention to rebound.

The yen has recently strengthened, approaching its cheapest level in four decades, with a price of around 160 per dollar this week.

This move comes despite US-Japanese efforts to strengthen the yen earlier in the month and highlights the limitations of intervention in the face of interest-rate differentials that favor the dollar.

Rieder emphasized that supporting the yen will require hawkish signals from the Bank of Japan, suggesting a more aggressive monetary policy stance.
